Guangzhou is such a large sprawling city that it can be really difficult, if you a new to the city, to choose a convenient place to stay.
It’s a question I get asked a lot, “which hotels are near the shopping areas? And near the metro?”. So, today I am going to answer exactly that.
First, let’s understand where the key shopping areas are, and which shopping area suits you.
- Modern Shopping Malls – This is Tianhe District without a doubt.
- Wholesale Markets – for clothing, that’s Guangzhou Railway Station area. For gifts, toys, and stationery, it’s Yide Road.
- Pedestrian Streets – Beijing Road or Shangxiajiu Road
It’s likely that you will have a focus on one of those but if it’s your first time to the city you’ll probably want to take a look at them all and the local attractions, so, being near a metro station is a BIG plus.
My top five picks at the central shopping area of Tianhe

The Top Hotels near Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street, Beijing Road, Wende Road, Haizhu Square, and Yide Road
Beijing Road is more than just the road, it encompasses the blocks surrounding it too. Parallel to it is Wende Road and nearby is Haizhu Square where there are several wholesale markets and several along Yide Road inc. One Link International Plaza. Sadly, there isn’t a lot of great hotels around here but here are two great picks.
These two hotels are not near Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street but you simply take the metro to Yide Road Station or Culture Park Station and wander to the pedestrian street. The hotels near the pedestrian street are not close to the metro so I don’t consider those
3 Star – Value – Just steps away from the Haizhu Square metro station on line 2 and 6. You can walk to Beijing Road or take the metro for one stop. Yide Road is one metro stop away. They also offer large family rooms and suites.
4 Star – Value – Just steps away from the Haizhu Square metro station on line 2 and 6. You can walk to Beijing Road or take the metro for one stop. Yide Road is one metro stop away.
