Guangzhou Opera House

Guangzhou Opera House is one of the landmark buildings on the Guangzhou New Central axis. It is located in the Tianhe Central Business District, in a quadrant with the Guangdong Provincial Museum, Guangzhou Library, and Children’s Palace.

The opera house is not only a destination for performances but also a famed architectural attraction. It was designed by the late British Iraqi designer Zaha Hadid. The Guangzhou Opera House has no vertical columns, no vertical walls, and an irregular geometric design, which makes the appearance of the “stone” twisted and inclined. There are 64 faces on the outer surface, 41 corners, and 104 ridgelines.

Guangzhou Grand Theatre covers an area of ​​42,000 square meters, with a construction area of ​​73,000 square meters and a total building height of 43.1 meters. It has an Opera Hall (1,687 seats), Experimental Theater (443 seats), and Contemporary Art Museum, and three rehearsal halls. It is home to the Guangzhou Grand Theatre Children’s Choir and Guangzhou Grand Theatre Children’s Ballet.

Getting there: You can take the metro line 3 or line 5 to Zhujiang New Town Station (Pearl River New Town Station) and walk around 5 mins. Or take the APM line to Grand Theatre Station.
