Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is a civil airport located about 28 kilometers north of Guangzhou. It is located in Baiyun–Huadu Districts, Guangzhou, Guangdong. In 2017, the passenger throughput of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport was 65.636 million passengers, ranking 13th in the world airport and ranking 3rd in the Chinese airport.

Getting to/from Guangzhou Airport
Airport transfers to and from Guangzhou Airport include the option of Metro, Airport Express Bus, Taxi, and Intercity Buses.
Guangzhou Metro 广州地铁
Guangzhou Airport is connected to the metro system via line 3.
- For T1 Terminal use Airport South Station 机场南(1号航站楼)
- For T2 Terminal use Airport North Station 机场北(2号航站楼)
Both stations are inside the terminal making it convenient to move from the metro station and onwards to find your check-in or exit in the case of arrivals.
Metro line 3 heads to the Guangzhou East Railway Station, then Guangzhou CBD (Zhujiang New Town), past the Canton Tower, and onwards through to Panyu Square.
To go from the airport to the city center at Pearl River New Town Station takes around 60 mins. (noting you have to change lines at Tiyu Xilu Station so add some spare time for that)

Transit Visa at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
72-hour transit visa-free transit – Since August 1, 2013, the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has implemented a 72-hour transit visa-free policy for citizens of 45 countries. Citizens of designated countries can stay in Guangdong Province without a Chinese visa.
144-hour visa-free transit – (available soon) The policy will now allow travelers from selected countries to visit Guangdong Province for 6 days without applying for a visa.

What to do at the airport?
It’s not the most boring airport in the world and certainly not the most uncomfortable. You can enjoy a large array of dining inc. KFC, McDonald’s, Starbucks, UBC coffee, and Subway. Of course, there are even more local Chinese eateries.
On the first floor of the main building, you can find a foot massage hall (Location: 主楼一层 东北区 C9127) and another Caven Foot Massage on the northwest side of the main building (Location: 主楼一层 西北区 C9139).
WiFi at the airport – you need to have a working mobile to receive a text message and get the code which is not an option for most visitors. Alternatively, you can go to 8 self-service Wifi number acquisition devices besides No. 3 luggage turntable near A101, A105, A110, A01, A113, A116 and A10. You can scan your passport and receive the code to access the internet. Alternatively, go to any cafe and they have free wifi.
There are also 58 wireless network multimedia kiosks with internet access. In addition, the multimedia kiosks are also equipped with passenger self-service query function and charging facilities.
Tips
According to the information in August 2017, the check-in procedure was stopped 45 minutes before the departure of the domestic flight of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, and the check-in procedure was stopped 1 hour before the international flight took off.
