Shixiang Garden Memorial Hall

Shixiang Garden, also known as the Seoshan Cottage in the Qing Dynasty, is named after the garden’s 10 kinds of fragrant flowers such as jasmine and night scent. It was once a famous painter in the late Qing Dynasty. It is also the residence of the Lingnan painting school’s originator, Lian, and the nesting brothers.

The founders of the Lingnan School of Painting, Gao Jianfu and Chen Shuren, all studied here, so the significance is extraordinary. Shixiang Garden is a typical Lingnan garden. It is exquisite and compact and has a quiet environment. It consists of the main buildings and courtyards such as the “Xiaoyue Qin Museum”, the old residence and the “Pear Blossom Hall”.

There are also permanent exhibitions “Tenxiang Garden and Juchao, Julian” and “The Origin of Poetry and Painting–The Origin of the School and the Lingnan Painting School”, which can better understand the origins of the garden owners and the Lingnan School of Painting.
