Chen Clan Ancestral Hall

Originally an academic center, it was founded in the 14th year of the Guangxu reign of Qing Dynasty (1888) by the 72 Chen clans for their juniors’ accommodation and preparation for the imperial examinations. It is a representative and well-established folk architecture in the late Qing Dynasty. It can be seen as a very distinctive sculpture. You can also see some art exhibitions and photo exhibitions, and experience the art in the old houses.

It has an ancient architectural style, full of Guangzhou style and Lingnan characteristics. Because it is preserved intact, it is necessary to look at the ancient architecture and history.

From the entrance into the ancestral hall, the order of viewing is: the main hall (double-sided hollow wood carving large screen door) – the platform (stone carving railing, iron casting flower slab) – Zhongjin Juxiantang (regular special exhibition) – After entering the middle hall (100-year-old Chen’s Academy photo exhibition) – Houdongzhai (flowing glory – Guangdong embroidery art exhibition) – former Dongxiang (old Guangzhou home exhibition).

The main attraction here is the architectural characteristics. In the halls, corridors, courtyards, doors, windows, railings, ridges, brick walls, beams, etc. along with wood carvings, stone carvings, brick carvings, pottery sculptures, etc. can be seen everywhere.
